Deaf and Hearing Impaired
In the U.S., 2 - 3 children per 1,000 are born deaf or with hearing loss. Most states require hearing testing be performed on newborns, but often diagnosis isn’t made until the age of 2. Hearing loss may be present at birth, or it can be a consequence of illness or injury. Since hearing loss can have a significant impact on language development, early detection and early treatment/intervention are very important.
